Week 1 The Story of Bread

January 17, 2012  •  Leave a Comment
The Story of Bread always starts with the ingredients. I have been enjoying using fresh ground whole grain flour! Other then that there is not a whole lot that goes into bread.

The yeast is one of the most important parts of the bread. You have to be carful not to kill it too soon with really hot water but the warmer the water the faster it grows. The neat thing about yeast is it is actually all around in the air and you don't really have to add it to the bread because it car take it from the air.

After mixing the ingredients and kneeding it for awhile it has to rise...

 and rose some more...

and rise some more although I forgot to make a photograph of it fully risen to the top of the bowl. After it is nice and huge it has to be punched down and formed into loves. My favorite loves are round cottage ones verses the standard bread-pan loves. I also like painting the loves with egg to make a nice golden crust. Then it has to rise some more...

And finally after it has risen big and fluffy it gets baked.

 And finally eaten, yum yum!

And that is my first weekly challenge. I hope you enjoyed it and the photographs.
